National Assessment & Accreditation Council, at Bangalore, is an autonomous Institution established by UGC in 1994 to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. St. Joseph's Degree & PG College had volunteered for an assessment and accreditation. A Peer Team comprising experts from various disciplines visited the institution from 29 - 31 July, 2008. They appreciated the teamwork of the faculty and their high level of motivation apart from the quality of education and teaching & learning methodologies followed here.

The College now is accredited by NAAC with "A" Grade with a CGPA of 3.51 out of 4 with effect from September 16th, 2008.

 
 
 
 
Grant of Autonomy
 
 
It is a matter of honour to state that the University Grants Commission has deemed it fit to accord autonomous status to St. Joseph’s in March 2011 consequent to the visit and inspection of the UGC Team in February 2011 which evaluated the education and allied processes in St. Joseph’s since its inception.
 
 
Autonomous status gives the freedom to modernize the curricula or make them locally relevant with the following features – flexible curriculum design, accountability and greater academia – industry relations /tie ups, semester system (16 weeks per semester), credit based assessment and, continuous internal assessment.
 
 
Inclusion/ Grant of  2(f) and 12 B by UGC
 
 
2 (f) was issued to St. Joseph’s College by UGC dated 25, July 2006 and 12 B was issued by UGC dated 27 June 2011.Apart from inclusion of colleges under Section 2(f), the UGC includes the Colleges under Section 12(B) of its Act in terms of Rules framed under the Act. This makes the colleges eligible for central assistance from the Government of India or any organization receiving funds from the Central Government.
