Seminar on Creating Excellence |
| |
| |
‘Creating Excellence’ was an inspirational seminar conducted by Ms. Shailaja Lakshmi of the ‘One World academy. It was designed as a programme with three stages involving the students, staff and the parents. The members of the faculty participated in this seminar on 29 July 2011.
During this seminar, the staff members were gently introduced to the various aspects of ‘awareness’. The onus of the seminar was to explain how we can be in touch with our own thought process. Instead of blaming other persons, the circumstance, the system or God, we need to look within ourselves to find the source of our emotions in our thoughts. She then proceeded to explain how this affects our role as a teacher. Within the classroom, we ought to remind ourselves of thoughts that hinder effective teaching. It also helps to understand that our students and colleagues are the victims of similar negative thoughts. Rather than blaming them, we must strive to empathise with this human weakness. In today’s world where knowledge is omnipresent on the internet and in self-help books, the role of the teacher lies in providing a practical role-model for the students. Only if we can learn to manage our emotions, can we add value to the knowledge we impart. Ms. Lakshmi was informative, persuasive and helpful in her talk. The faculty members felt rejuvenated and were appreciative of this opportunity provided by the management. All the students were also given the opportunity of attending the seminar. Most of the students were very happy. |
