To use the literary content of the text in refining their human sense and sensibilities.
To make the students competent in the Basics of English Language and Grammar.
To enhance their English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
To build life skills through value-based education and service-oriented programs.
 
CURRICULUM AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY
 

An activity-based methodology is followed viz Group Discussions, Book Reading, Debates, Language Quiz,    Advertisement Drafting, Role Enactment, Presentations and Short Films.

Core areas of focus include Public Speaking, Personality Grooming, Job Skills and Social Awareness.

The language lab is optimally used to train the students in listening comprehension.

Students are given regular internet updates on free websites for language learning.

Diversified instruction material is employed--News Paper cuttings, TV Talk Shows, You Tube, Blogs etc

A Verbal Ability Test is administered to Degree I year students to assess their entry level language proficiency.    Accordingly a Bridge Course is designed to fill the gaps in their language skills.  

Continuous evaluation is done through various modes – Projects, Presentations, Group Discussions,    Assignments, Online Testing, Film/Book Reviews, Listening Comprehension, Classroom Interactions, Seminars,    Internet Research.

Diagnostic tests are designed to ensure that the students are tested on reading, speaking and listening skills as    well.

Mandatory End –of- the- Year assignments are designed to give the students adequate language practice on    important grammar topics.

Assignments are designed towards Internet Research and the use of ICT: Short films and power point    presentations on both subject-related topics and topics of general interest are encouraged.

  d Dr. Deepika Rupert Gardner, Associate Professor & Head Department of English and Ms. Bhuvana Immaculate attended Business English Certificate Examiners Training Programme of Cambridge University  at Malla Reddy College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad on 15 February 2014.  
  d Dr. Deepika Rupert Gardner, Associate Professor & Head Department of English  and Ms. Angela Christina participated in a seminar conducted on “Soft Skills” on 31 October 2013 at Aurora College, Hyderabad.  
  dDr. Deepika attended the First Sweden –Indo Nobel Memorial Quiz held at JNTU, Hyderabad along with five teams from the college.  
 
Dr.Sangeetha atteneded UGC National Seminar on "Changing Langscape " conducted by St. Ann's College for    Women, Mehdipatnam on 6th Aug, 2011.
 
  Dr. Sangeetha & Mrs. Alankrita Mahendra designed a week long Module and were also resource persons for "    Foudation Course in English " which was part of the UGC Staff Orientation Programme conducted by UGC    Academic Staff College, OU in the month of July 2011.  
  Dr. Sangeetha & Mrs. Alankrita Mahendra participated in a talk show on " Women Empowerment in the Context of    Working Women" conducted by IOB to mark Women's Day on March 8, 2011.

s The Government Degree & PG College, Udhampur, University of Jammu invited Dr. Deepika Rupert Gardner, Associate Professor & Head Department of English to give a Guest Lecture for their PG students of M.A. English, M.A. Hindi & their faculty on 4 April, 2014. The topic was “Strategies to Optimize Corporate Communication”.

The lecture was attended by about 40 PG students & 10 faculty members from the departments of English, Hindi & History from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. the response & feedback was good.

  s Dr. Deepika Rupert Gardner, Associate Professor & Head, Department of English presented a Paper on “Communication in Business – an Edge” in the National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Commerce –An Edge” at St. Joseph’s Degree & PG College, King Koti, Hyderabad On 19 December 2013.  
  s Conducted a Faculty Orientation Program along with Dr. S. Brinda, Dean Academics on- ‘The Need for Research and Research Methodology’ on 4th June, 2012.  
  Presented a Paper on ‘BEST PRACTICES IN TEACHING & LEARNING’ in the National Seminar on Role of IQAC- Sustenance & Enhancement of Quality in Higher Education Institutions sponsored by NAAC on 25th & 26th September 2012 at St. Joseph’s Degree & PG College, King Koti, Hyderabad.  
  Dr. Deepika chaired a Plenary Session on ‘Sharing of Best Practices’ at the IQAC National Seminar held in September, 2012.  
  The Elocution Team trained by Dr. Deepika Gardner for The Hindu Newspaper won the First place for St. Joseph’s in Inter-College competitions held at TTKR Group of Institutions, Hyderabad.  
  g A Ten-Day MBA Campus Recruitment Training Program was designed and conducted by Dr. Deepika Gardner from 26th November to 6th December 2012. It focused on the written paper segment relating to proficiency in English, Resume writing and Interview skills.  
 

Dr. Deepika wrote three articles for the E-Zine Magazine of Crucibles from Indian Institute of Planning & Management, Erra Manzil, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.
